The schedule at school this week has been changed in order to allow the students time to prepare for this weekend's Sports Festival. There were no classes this afternoon. The students spent time working on the mascots, the panels, the group dances, races, folk dance etc. Here is the blue 'block' working on their mascot (Thomas the train)

Each 'block' had an alloted time to practice on the school ground where the event will be taking place. The 3 rd year students make up the dances and cheers, and teach it the 2nd and 1st year students in their blocks. Although teachers are available should the students need help with anything, almost everything is done by the students.

The first year teachers will be participating in one of the races. So while the students were practicing their marching, dancing, races etc, Miyamoto sensei, Shimasaki sensei, Shimomura sensei, Kitano sensei and I went down by the tennis courts to practice for the relay. We ran a few laps around the tennis courts and practiced passing the baton to each other. I think we got more exercise from all the laughing than we did from the running!

After school, we went out to a yakitori restaurant together to celebrate Miyamoto sensei's return from Australia. I wish they had showers at school, because getting back into my clothes after having spent a fairly large chunk of time running and hanging around in the sun is not so pleasant. I don't know how everyone manages to look so well kept all the time..!

Here we are finishing up at the yakitori restaurant. (from left to right: Nakashima sensei, me, Miyamoto sensei, Shimasaki sensei and Shimomura sensei)

Miyamoto sensei gave us each a very cute bag of sweets, everything in it being individually wrapped..of course..

Everyone was feeling like it was too early to head home after dinner, so we decided to do some karaoke...I LOVE karaoke!!

I wish there were more songs that we had in common to sing together, but is still loads of fun. Some teachers sang some songs in English, and I managed to sing along with some of the Japanese songs! There's usually a stage which you can perform your dance as well as sing...always very entertaining! :)

Was a great evening!!
