Bye Yamada sensei!

Erica came over from Kumamoto this weekend. It’s been a while since she last came over to Nagasaki! Together we headed to Sasebo (a couple of hours drive from Nagasaki) to meet up with Yamada sensei. She will be leaving for London, Canada exactly a week from today, so this was our last time to get together!

There’s a famous restaurant called Woody Life, the specialty being (Japanese) curry dishes. Although we had to wait a good 30-40 minutes before going in, it was well worth the wait!

From there we went to Saikai bridge, the first toll bridge in Japan built in 1995. A newer flashier bridge running parallel to it just opened 2 weeks ago. This is the view of the new bridge, taken from the old one.

The water has small whirpools which make it very dangerous for swimmers. Apparently, the Hario strait under the bridge has one of the three strongest currents in Japan. Once you go in, you can't come back out..

You can check out videos of the area at http://www.pref.nagasaki.jp/naisnet/en/osusume/index.html

Beneath the new bridge, there's a walkway that pedestrians can use. At the center of the bridge, there are glass windows on the ground which let you see the water below.

It was sad to say goodbye to Yamada sensei at the end of the day, but I'm sure everyone in London will take good care of her! I look forward to hearing about all her adventures!
